The Twins, with a 36-33 record (16-21 in road games) are sitting in second place in the American League East. Meanwhile, the Astros have won seven of their last 10 games, giving them a 39-30 record (25-13 at home), the top spot in the American League West Division.
The Minnesota Twins enter this game looking to bounce back from a 10-3 defeat by the Astros in yesterday's series opener while the Astros are looking to build on that win.
The Minnesota Twins will have Joe Ryan as their starting pitcher, with a 7-2 record and 2.96 ERA (82 strikeouts) this season. He's given up 7 runs in his last 2 starts combined.
The Houston Astros will counter with Hunter Brown 8-3 record, a 1.82 ERA (93 strikeouts) this season. He has given up 2 runs or less in 9 out of his last 11 starts.
This was an easy handicap for me. Brown has been dominate and I think that continues today. Look for him to get the strikeouts when he needs them. The Astros hitting has been less than impressive this season, the power just hasn't been there, but Joe Ryan tends to give up more contact on the road, and they do hit better at home. Also consider the Rangers were able to get at the Twins bullpen and put 32 runs on the board in 3 games just a few days ago. I like the Astros chances in the late innings.
With Hunter Brown on the mound and what I consider a very reliable bullpen for Houston, I don't think the Astros will need more than 2 or 3 runs to get the W in this one. The Twins' relatively high strikeout rate and their struggles on the road make me confident that Hunter Brown will dominate this lineup today and secure the win. I expect a low-scoring game at the historically pitcher-friendly Daikin Park. I have this line set at about -145 to -150. We secured good value here at -123 and I'm risking 2 units on the Houston Astros moneyline.
