The Athletics will face the New York Yankees at Sutter Health Park on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with the first pitch set for 4:05 p.m.
The New York Yankees enter this game aiming to build on their 10-2 victory over the Athletics in Friday's series opener, bringing their season record to 22-16. Following this series, the Yankees will travel for an upcoming series against the Seattle Mariners.
They bring out Carlos Rodon as the starting pitcher for this game. Rodon currently holds a 4-3 record with a 2.96 ERA and has 57 strikeouts this season. In his last five appearances against the Athletics, Rodon has maintained a 4-0 record with a 1.11 ERA and has recorded 23 strikeouts. They don't like seeing him at all.
JP Sears is scheduled to start for the Athletics, with a record of 4-2, a 2.93 ERA and 32 strikeouts this season. The key stat here though, in his last five starts against the Yankees, Sears has recorded a 0-4 record with a 6.49 ERA and 25 strikeouts. Less than spectacular.

The New York Yankees rank among the top seven teams in four major hitting categories. They lead in on-base percentage at .342 and slugging percentage at .465.
They are also third in runs scored with a total of 206, averaging 5.6 runs per game, and hold the seventh position in batting average at .258.
Aaron Judge stands out as the team's stats leader, topping the Yankees in batting average (.400), home runs (12), RBIs (34), hits (56), and on-base percentage (.491). He is MLB's top overall hitter this season, and currently leads the league in batting average and hits, and is tied for the lead in both home runs and runs batted in.
The Yankees have the highest slugging percentage in baseball vs left-handed pitching, and the A’s aren’t far behind. I think the Yankees will be a problem for Sears, but the best hitters for the A’s are largely lefties. Rodon absolutely neutralizes lefties and that will be the difference in this game.
I understand supporting a home underdog in certain situations, and there will be times this season where backing the A's will be profitable. They're hitting the ball, marking their best form in quite some time. They have the potential to surprise some teams.
However, JP Sears has encountered significant challenges when facing his former team.
This pitching matchup just does not favor the Athletics in my opinion. Carlos Rodon has been performing exceptionally well recently and has a strong track record against the Athletics.
I think the Yankees should be priced at about a -180 favorite here. Our members secured outstanding value when we gave this play out at -145 early this morning.
