Super Bowl 59 kicks of tonight at 6:30pm EST in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Two exceptional defenses face off against two multifaceted offenses, and it's like Christmas morning for sports bettors. Pretty much anything you could imagine happening in an NFL football game, well, you can place a wager on it today.
I'm going to focus on the game total here though, as I believe that's where we have an advantage.
First, lets take a look at this Eagles team. They dominate with a physical, old-school style of football, relying on a relentless rushing attack and an aggressive, swarming defense. They've allowed just 16.4 points per game since October and have been excellent against both the run and the pass.
They've led the NFL with a 91.1 overall grade—more than 11 points higher than the next highest-graded unit. Can you guess who that may be?
Correct.
The two highest-rated defenses in the league are taking the field today.
The Chiefs have allowed just 18.4 ppg in the regular season and playoffs. (forget week 18). They have been strong against the run, and although their secondary seemed to have had issues at one point, it has gotten better since CB Jaylen Watson has been back on the field.
Both offenses are systematic and tend to consume a lot of time off the clock. KC worked long slow drives down the field all season, ranking 23rd in the league for yards per play. Meanwhile, Philly runs the ball at the highest rate in the league, keeping that clock ticking.
Surely, you can see where I'm going with this.
This is a classic matchup for the under. I know they are two great offensives who can score touchdowns, but it's how they do it that leads me to a wager on the under. These are two exceptionally strong defenses facing off against offenses that prioritize the running game.
We will see the defenses get the stops they need when it matters most.
I think whoever wins the time of possession battle will win this championship game. I'm expecting long, run driven, dink and dunk, grinding type drives with scrambling quarterbacks as each team will look to keep their opponents offense off the field, and their explosive defenses rested.
It's not the most exciting bet to root for during the big game, but I'm recommending a play on the under total points in this one.
